Boscov’s at Eastwood Mall shifting opening date

            Boscov’s is coming to Eastwood Mall in Niles, Ohio…just not as quickly as everyone would like.  The ongoing health crisis related to the global pandemic known as Coronavirus or COVID-19 has created a series of challenges preventing this 49^th location of the iconic department store from opening this year.  Boscov’s has made the difficult decision to shift the opening to October of 2021.

            “You only get one chance to introduce a new store the right way” said Boscov’s Chairman and CEO Jim Boscov.  “We want to give the Mahoning and Shenango Valley communities the grand opening celebration they deserve, full of entertainment, food tastings, education seminars and so much more and to do so with confidence means waiting until 2021.”

            Another consideration is properly merchandising the new store.  Currently, there is great disruption in the supply chain for consumer goods.  Manufacturers of apparel, housewares, appliances, furniture and other goods are facing a variety of difficulties.  “The last thing we want is to disappoint a new customer because we don’t have the tremendous assortment that Boscov’s is known for due to supply chain challenges facing the vendor community as a result of the current pandemic,” said Mr. Boscov.

            While the delay in opening the Eastwood Mall location is disappointing, when finished, it will be the largest single department store inside Eastwood Mall.  Mr. Boscov offered this promise: “We will be ready to greet all our new customers next year.  When we do, they’ll be amazed by the vast assortment, incredible prices and terrific service we deliver.”
