Kudos for Kennedy

Eastwood Mall today continued its tradition of honoring scholastic teams that have achieved greatness.  It hosted a Champions Rally for the girls basketball team of Kennedy Catholic High School in Hermitage.  On March 23, the Golden Eagles beat Homer-Center 65-45 in the Pennsylvania Class AA state championship. It was their second state title and first since 2001. 

The Champions Rally took place in the mall’s Center Court at noon.  Players, coaches, school administrators and proud relatives all attended.  Head Coach Justin Magestro recounted the tale about a season that didn’t look promising at first.  The Eagles were 0 – 3 at the start but they never lost a game after that.  “This team knows that we’re there every game for 32 minutes of business” he said. 

Hermitage City Commissioners Duane Piccirilli and Louis Squatrito were on hand to congratulate the team.  Mercer County Commissioner Tim McGonigle presented a proclamation lauding the girls for their spectacular season. 

As part of the festivities, the Cafaro Foundation made a $10,000 donation to the Kennedy Catholic Family of Schools.
