What little kid wouldn’t like a new bicycle for Christmas? A group of local military veterans is helping to grant that wish this year, with a special donation. On Tuesday, December 4, the Marine Corps League Tri-State Detachment 494 will donate 115 new bicycles to the Toys for Tots program. The formal donation will take place at 1pm, at Super Kmart at the Eastwood Mall Complex.

For many years, the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program has been putting smiles on less fortunate children by putting new toys under their Christmas trees. Members of the Marine Corps League saw that ever-popular gift, the bicycle, was rarely donated to the annual toy drive. Last year, Detachment 494 started collecting money to purchase bikes. In recent months, they were able to raise more than $15,000 for their project. They thanked many local people for their generosity, including Anthony Cafaro, Sr., retired President of the parent firm of the Eastwood Mall Complex. The League members also expressed their gratitude to Super Kmart, which provided a deep discount on the price of the bicycles.
